The Nottingham Respiratory Research Unit (NRRU) is one of the leading respiratory research units in the UK. Nottingham University Hospital has been conducting world class clinical respiratory research since 1984. The NRRU takes medical research out of laboratories and brings it back into community practice (within the NHS). The ultimate goal is to improve patient care.
The NRRU is a partnership between Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Nottingham. This partnership creates an ideal environment for exchanging ideas, successfully bringing together clinicians and scientists committed to bringing medical research back into primary care and the NHS.
The NRRU undertakes clinical research studies in all respiratory diseases, including asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, lung fibrosis and LAM. Some of the research studies require a simple blood sample (looking at biomarkers) while others require more detailed tests, such as bronchial challenges and bronchoscopies. Even people with very mild asthma or COPD are welcome to join our register of volunteers, as most of our clinical research studies require specific groups of patients. These groups can range from people with mild, well controlled asthma or COPD to those with more severe, poorly controlled lung conditions.
